Main Changes in the 2026 F1 Regulations (vs. 2022)
Car Dimensions & Chassis
- Smaller and lighter cars: wheelbase reduced from 3600 mm to 3400 mm, width from 2000 mm to 1900 mm.
- Minimum weight drops to 768 kg (car + driver + tyres).
- Downforce reduced (~30%), drag decreased (~55%).
Aerodynamics
- Simplified ground-effect floors; smaller venturi tunnels.
- Active aerodynamics replace DRS, with low-drag mode for straights and high-downforce mode for corners.
- Aim: closer racing and better overtaking (less dirty air).
Power Unit & Hybrid
- MGU-H removed; MGU-K output increased to ~350 kW.
- Cars use 100% sustainable fuel.
- More energy recovery per lap for higher electric deployment.
Performance & Handling
- Lighter, narrower cars improve agility.
- Reduced dirty air effects help following cars maintain grip.
Safety & Technical
- Stronger side intrusion and crash protection.
- Simplified aero reduces risk of instability like porpoising.
These changes focus on sustainability, cost control, and more competitive racing, with cars relying more on handling, energy management, and driver skill.
